Meet the Artists Jeanette and Tom McDonald were born in Albany, Oregon. Jeanette was raised in Albany and Tom in Boise, Idaho. Both of these talented artists had an interest in photography at a very young age. Jeanette and Tom’s first cameras were acquired in their early teens. This is where the journey of photography began. Some of Tom’s early photography was taken in Viet Nam as a gunner on a riverboat in 1968-69. His photos portray the war in a unique fashion. For years Jeanette and Tom’s photography have been original ideas and references for paintings of well-known artists in the Northwest. Only after years of encouragement from these artists and friends did Jeanette and Tom started publishing their own works. The artists offer one of a kind originals and small limited edition prints. They also have expanded their photography by printing 90% of their own work along with collecting old barn wood from all over the United States to build their classic barn wood frames for much of their larger pieces. One of the most interesting facts regarding their photography is it doesn’t pertain to only Wildlife, Landscapes, Florals, Native American or Western pieces, but instead incorporates all of these into a collage of freshness that's needed in this day and age. Another interesting idea is the combination of watercolor paper and canvas for their photography. The photographs are printed on watercolor paper and canvas, some in full color; others are black and white with a personal hand tinted touch making each piece one of a kind. All Watercolor and Canvas editions are 50 or less in an edition size or one of a kind originals. Original prints are sold with the negative to assure the buyer that there is only one image of their purchase. This technique is new and exciting not only for Jeanette and Tom, but to the photography world in general. There are very few photographers doing one of a kind originals or this small of an edition. This causes their work to be very collectible. Jeanette and Tom travel on an average of 20,000 miles a year looking for that perfect sunset, sunrise or other prize winning photograph. Amidst their travels they do an average of 15 to 20 fine art shows a year. The winter months are spent in the Southwest participating in art and wine festivals in the Scottsdale/Carefree, Arizona area with most summer shows taking place in the Pacific Northwest. Jeanette and Tom are one of very few husband and wife teams active in the art world today.
